Cousteau became a global TV personality in the late 1960s and 70s with his marine documentary series The Undersea World Of Jacques Cousteau and The Cousteau Odyssey. The films thrilled and enchanted audiences around the world, introducing them to the unseen wonders of deep.

While America and Russia raced each other to conquer space, this Gallic David Attenborough focused on exploring and filming the seas with his wife and sons, crew and boat – The Calypso.

Cousteau was a driven man whose ego and hunger for fame matched his passion for diving. Never content, he lived and breathed adventure but his expeditions and infidelities took their toll on his wife and their sons.

Directed by Jérôme Salle, the film stars Lambert Wilson, Pierre Niney, Audrey Tautou, Laurent Lucas and Benjamin Laverherne.

“A fascinating and compelling story that serves as a powerful reminder of Cousteau’s infectious enthusiasm for life underwater.”
Matthew Bond, The Mail on Sunday

“induces the same sense of wonder as Cousteau’s TV documentaries”
Geoffrey Macnab, The Independent.

“Beautifully filmed, The Odyssey tells the story of the Jacques-Yves Cousteau you did not get to know through his documentary films.”
