In the Film Club’s selection for March, Dame Maggie Smith recreates the singular Miss Shepherd in Alan Bennett’s big-screen comedic adaptation of his own iconic memoir and successful stage play.
Based on the true story, Miss Shepherd was a woman of uncertain origins who ‘temporarily’ parked her van in Bennett’s London driveway, and then lived there for the next 15 yrs. What began as a begrudged favour became a relationship that changed their lives.
Filmed on the street and in the house where Bennett and Miss Shepherd lived, acclaimed director Nicholas Hytner reunites with Bennett to bring this funny, poignant, and life-affirming story to the screen. The film also stars Alex Jennings, Jim Broadbent, Roger Allam and Frances De La Tour.
The Lady In The Van (Cert: 12 / 104 mins) screened in association with The Hive, at The Memorial Hall, Common Road, Chorleywood on Fri 18 March at 8pm. Doors 7.30pm.
Tickets £6 in advance from the Chorleywood Bookshop or at the door if available.
