CHORLEYWOOD FILM CLUB is now official — with a committee, a logo and lots of plans for the months ahead. The response from our feature in our July issue was ‘wonderful’ says founder Kevin Andrews.” Ten people got in touch from a recent graduate looking to break into the film industry to a leading light in the U3A movement and are already helping make things happen. We’ve got academics, retired people and even film makers involved, all with different skills but united by a love of film and a desire to change Chorleywood entertainment scene for the better. There’s still lots of work to be done so need even more volunteers to join us.”
The article also led to a very generous donation of cinema seating from an existing cinema. ”The 60+ top quality seats will make all the difference to creating the right atmosphere for the Chorleywood cinema. Further donations of equipment are very much appreciated, projectors, screens, sound equipment – even old DVDs would be very welcome as we build up our library of films.”
The group is now being advised by Dudley Smithers, ex Chair of the British Federation of Film Societies. Dudley’s unparalleled experience of setting up film societies over many years will be invaluable in making sure we get all the ingredients right, first time. ‘We want to involve all parts of the community and are particularly interested in working with existing businesses, especially Chorleywood Bookshop whose experience of providing cultural activities to Chorleywood will make all the difference to the success or failure of the club.”
A late October/November opening is planned for Chorleywood Film Club with movies, talks, kids’ events and even a Hollywood themed party to kick it all off on 31 October with film related activities up until and including 5th November.
