Starring: Renée Zellweger, Jessie Buckley, Finn Wittrock

The Festival’s opening film is set in London in 1968 and features an award-winning performance from Renée Zellweger. Judy captures the waning days of Judy Garland with clear-eyed compassion and contains some of her best-loved songs. The film celebrates the voice, the capacity for love and the sheer pizzaz of “the world’s greatest entertainer”.

mini movie makers & young film makers competitions 2020

Come and celebrate the filmmaking talents of entrants to this year’s competitions. You’ll have the chance to see all the entries in the 4 different age categories.

David Yates (the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts director, and the Festival’s Film Club’s patron), Graham Ralph (BAFTA winning animated film director) and Martin Clarkson (our MC for the afternoon) will be joining us to announce the winners and present the awards.

In addition we will be ending the session with a mystery special screening!

The Keeper tells the incredible true story of Bert Trautmann, a German soldier and prisoner of war who, against a backdrop of British post-war protest and prejudice, secures the position of goalkeeper at Manchester City. Bert’s love for Margaret, an Englishwoman, carries him through; and his courageous performance in the 1956 FA Cup Final ensures his status as a footballing icon. But fate will soon twist the knife for Bert and Margaret when their love and loyalty to each other is put to the ultimate test.

Parents and children – come as any film or cartoon character you like for a fancy dress parade before the film screening. prize for the best child’s costume.

It’s one small step for lamb in Shaun’s new out of this world adventure which closes this year’s Festival. When a mischievous alien crash-lands near Mossy Bottom farm, Shaun sets out on a thrilling rescue mission to help return her home, while a secret government UFO organisation is hot on their trail. Can Shaun and the flock avert Farmageddon before it’s too late?
